Here are a selection of images from a recent Fine Art Nude session, arn’t they beautiful? These were taken for my portfolio and to extend my experience. Sam isn’t a professional model, but wanted to record her body in an artistic manner for herself, hence the majority of these are anonymous, or carefully cropped. Neither one of us had any experience with nude figure photography, so we worked together with poses and lighting until what we had felt right. All in all, my lovely model reported that it was a fun, liberating experience and one she would recommend!

These maternity portraits were taken in the Autumn last year but I’ve been so busy I’ve hardly had time to Blog them until today! They feature the lovely Lowis and Paul who were expecting their first baby together and have since had a lively baby girl. I absolutely love the atmosphere of drama and dignity the low key studio work creates – particularly in these. Bx

These portraits were taken for fun whilst celebrating a friend’s 30th Birthday last weekend – and wow, what a weekend we had! I naturally took my camera and kit and enjoyed three days of late nights, girly chats and of course, took zillions of photographs. We had the run of an immense detatched farm house, which had this fantastic, dramatic black and white wallpaper in the pool room. On the saturday evening a photo session kind of just naturally occurred, due to in part, lots of wine, fun and girly giggles. This is the result! Thanks to all the girls for putting up with me and my camera over the weekend and for being such great models. I think they all look wickedly glamarous in these. Thanks also to Laura for my portrait (yes, they got me infront of the lens!) can you spot me?! Oh and before I forget, can you also spot Graham, our naked butler?! Becca x

How many people drive to work happy?! Well that was me today as I headed for Kayt and Dan’s house for their newborn photo shoot. After having photographed Kayt in December (see Kayt in bloom) I couldn’t wait to finally meet the family’s new arrival. Little Maddie was fantastic and at seven days old already has bags of character. These are the best from the session. Enjoy! Bx

If I could say any one thing to everyone in this new year, this new decade, it would be: follow your dreams!

Twelve months ago, my life was on a totally different track, my projectory back then: to return to secondary Art and Photography teaching and resume a role I had spent years training for with a staff team I loved working with. It was one of the biggest decisions I have ever made…to instead dramatically change my life and pursue photography.

My closest friends knew all about my passion for photography as over the past decade they had modelled patiently for various photo shoots since my Fine Art Degree and beyond. Whether they were helping drag a cast iron victorian bed through a woodland for a shot, or standing in the sea in nought but a nightgown, or dancing between four towering white shire horses, one thing was for sure: they knew I was absolutely dedicated to ‘getting a shot’ and creating stunning photographs. So to my friends it seemed a very natural progression to take my love of photography into a professional sphere. My family could see my enthusiasm, persistence and drive and knew I had what it took to make a new business work. Others warned me of the economic downturn and told me that it might be madness to risk house, home and the security of a solid job ‘on a whim’, especially when I now had a new family! Surely I was risking it all.. . . . on something as yet totally unproven?! It took me months of soul searching to finally take the step.

Rebecca May Photography was officially launched with a whirl and the blessing of all friends and family on a sunny spring day in May 2009. Something in me won out I guess and I decided to go for it with no regrets. After all, you only live once!!! I’ve had a fantastic year…a real rollercoaster – I’ve learnt so, so much about running a small business, about taking better photographs, about stretching myself, about always, always improving what I do. It’s been so worth while.

This year coming I will continue to specialise in ‘bumps and babies’ as there is nothing so magical than a bump or newborn photo shoot… .. . I also intend to develop the fine art nude as a section to my portfolio. I continue to teach lifedrawing and have worked with lifemodels for years, so this is a very natural extension of this. I will be further developing my wedding portfolio too. I have a few weddings booked for over the next eighteen months and am really looking forward to telling each couple’s story of their big day. Lastly… . . .I am getting married this year! You might even get a little sneak peek of my own wedding photographs in the summer.

So raising a glass to a successful and happy 2010 for everyone and I hope you also follow your dreams. Be brave and make them happen.

Twice as nice

You may well recognise this beautiful belly! Jo’s baby bump graced the front of the website gallery this Christmas. Here are a selection of some of the other amazing images from her maternity photo shoot taken in late December. Expecting twins and in the last few weeks of her pregnancy, some of the sitting and laying down poses were quite a mission, but Jo managed to look relaxed and graceful in every photograph. I heard today that the babies have arrived safely and Jo and Nick are over the moon with their new son and daughter. Congratulations you two! I look forward to meeting the twins soon.

Kayt in Bloom

I spent this afternoon shooting a wonderful bump session for Kayt, who is due any minute! As you’ll see this is a departure from my more formal studio portraits. Instead I went on location and used natural, available light, taking advantage of several rooms in Kayt’s home for uncluttered backdrops. I am very pleased with the results and would like to do more of this! It’s a completely different sort of challenge to studio work – as a photographer I found it made me more inventive and creative as I put shots together from the given environment and light levels. It’s taking me back to my roots! Can’t wait to meet Kayt and Dan’s little newborn daughter in a couple of weeks time. Bx
